A book that, in my childhood days, has made quite an impression on me - moved me to tears, in fact. And, as far as I know, many of the people who have read it as children have had the same reaction. As an adult, I now perceive a layer of irony and bitterness hidden under all these moving heroic adventures - and this make this book get me even more.

To make these illustrations ( and the whole layout and cover as well ) was for me a kind of challenge, a return to a text that was one of my biggest childhood reading traumas...
