When I was a child, one of my parents read me this book - and I remember to this day how much it scared me. Especially the first chapters with their dark, delirious atmosphere. Since then I have returned to Teasure Island when it was my time to read it to my kids and, even though it doesn't scare me now, I still like this book a lot.
When, one fine day, a publisher asked me to illustrate Stevenson's book, I was thrilled and overjoyed. I created the illustrations presented below, the publisher accepted them, and even paid for them - but, alas, didn't publish the book in the end. It's three years now that the project remains lost at sea for a reason unknown to me - and since there's no news of its return, I've decided to at least show these illustrations here.
